Trump’s announcement on his platform Truth Social praised Homan’s dedication to border security, stating, “There is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders.” The role of "border czar" under Homan will go beyond overseeing the U.S.-Mexico border; it will also encompass the northern border and extend to maritime and aviation security.

Homan has emphasized that his approach will target illegal immigration specifically, stating that mass deportation efforts are "not threatening to the nation's immigrant community, but should be threatening to the illegal immigrant community." During his interview with Fox News, Homan noted that ICE operations would be both "well-targeted" and "humane," focusing on efficiency and enforcement.

Trump’s renewed focus on border security comes after record-high illegal crossings under the Biden administration. According to the Department of Homeland Security, fiscal year 2024 saw nearly 3 million illegal encounters. Trump’s campaign also highlighted his concerns over issues such as drug trafficking, gang activity, and human smuggling across the border, aiming to crack down on these areas in his second term.
