"Apple Drops Plans to Develop MicroLED Displays for Apple Watch"

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who reversed his earlier reporting on the technology's development, Apple has terminated an internal project to produce microLED panels. Apple spent billions on the development of microLED panels, intending to incorporate them into the Apple Watch Ultra initially.Due to the high cost and complexity of designing MicroLEDs, Apple is currently restructuring its display engineering teams and terminating workers in both the United States and Asia. While others will receive severance pay, some of the laid-off workers might be able to find other positions inside the organization.

The announcement in February by supplier Ams OSRAM that a "cornerstone project" pertaining to microLEDs had been shelved gave rise to rumors that Apple had abandoned ambitions for an Apple Watch.
